Ministry Needs


Every Tuesday and Thursday, Love In Action helps homeless and poor families on our campus with food, hygiene items, and clothing. We serve hot meals on each of those days, as well.  Please help us keep our shelves stocked, so we can continue to help meet the growing needs of the homeless and poor in Dothan, Alabama, and the Wiregrass.


If you, your family, small group, church or civic group can help please do. Donations of food and hygiene items may be dropped off at our office, located at 279 W. Main St., suite 2, Dothan, Ala., in downtown Dothan on the following days:

Donations can be dropped off at 279 W. Main St. in downtown Dothan on the following days:

  • Tuesday - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday - 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Thursday - 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Friday - 9:30-11:30 a.m.
  • Saturday - 9-11:30 a.m. (first 3 Saturdays of each month)

We also need paper, plastic and cleaning products to help with each ministry we do. Finances are always welcome to help meet the daily, weekly and monthly needs of the ministry, such as mortgage payment of buildings, insurance, utilities, upkeep of buildings and vehicles, etc. Most of all, we need your prayers.

Volunteers is another big need of the ministry. At the bottom of this page you will find a Volunteers Signup Form. Please fill it out and submit it electronically and come join Team LIA.

  • Food Items

    We accept non-perishable canned food items for the homeless and needy. Some people we help do have refrigerators and freezers, so we can also accept frozen foods. Please make sure all food items are not out of date. We need:

    • Canned meats: Tuna, chicken, ham, etcc
    • Canned vegetables
    • Packages of spaghetti and cans or jars of spaghetti sauce
    • Canned Spaghetti and Ravioli
    • Rice
    • Soup (no cream of celery or mushroom)
    • Peanut butter (small jars and preferably creamy)
    • Jelly
    • Fruit
    • Crackers
    • Snacks
    • Small cans of applesauce and fruit
    • Vienna Sausage
    • Beanie Weenies

  • Hygiene Items

    We accept the following hygiene products (normal sizes and items must be new, not used):

    • Shampoo
    • Body wash/soap
    • Shaving cream and good razors
    • Deodorant (men and women)
    • Lotion
    • Tooth paste and tooth brushes
    • Alcohol-free mouthwash
    • Fingernail clippers
    • Feminine products
    • Baby diapers

  • Items for the Homeless

    • Tents (2-3 persons tent)
    • Insect repellent
    • Propane fuel
    • Small propane grills
    • Sleeping bags
    • Sleeping pads
    • Backpacks
    • Flashlights
    • Batteries (AAA, AA, C and D)
    • Battery powered radios
    • Small battery-powered alarm clocks
    • First aid kits

  • Paper/ Plastic/ Cleaning Products

    The following products are needed at Love In Action:

    • Three-compartment togo plates
    • Plasticware packets with forks, spoons, and knives
    • Toilet paper
    • Paper towels
    • Napkins
    • 6-8 oz. plastic cups
    • 6 oz. styrofoam coffee cups
    • Cleaning products/supplies
    • Clothes Washing Detergent
    • Bleach

  • Clothes

    We accept men's and women's clothes. Men's and women's blue jeans are always a big need, as are men's T-shirts and polo shirts. Work shorts are needed as well. Good work boots and tennis shoes are popular items as well.


    We are in constant need of new men's and women's underwear of all sizes. We do not accept used underwear.


  • Bibles

    It is important that we put the Word of God in the hands of as many people as possible. The favored translations are ESV, NASB, Holman, NIV, NLT, and NKJV. If you are able to give larger print Bibles that is a plus as well.



  • Finances

    Finances are a great need as Love In Action operates off the generous donations of individuals, churches and businesses. Please pray about becoming a regular monthly supporter of Love In Action to help us reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to help those who cannot help themselves.

  • Prayer

    We believe prayer is very powerful. This is not an easy ministry, so we are very thankful for your many prayers. Your prayers strengthen us. Please pray for those we reach out to, that their hearts will be softened and they will make decisions to follow Jesus. Please pray for God's provision, so we can continue meeting the needs of the people as we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ through acts of compassion.


    We are praying for you just like the Apostle Paul writes in Colossians 1:3, "We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you..."

Volunteers are a very important need we have here at Love In Action. We can't do what we do without our wonderful volunteers.

Our Love In Action campus is located at 279 W. Main St. in downtown Dothan. Our days and hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and the first three Saturdays of each month from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. We also have a couple of evening ministry times during the week as well.
