Love In Action helped the homeless prepare for the upcoming cold nights by giving out blankets and jackets. During the first day of the outreach, Love In Action served hotdogs for lunch and prayed with many people. The second day of the outreach, volunteers from five different churches joined Love In Action to provide the homeless with a special day. They started lining up for lunch at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Love In Action volunteers spent the entire morning preparing lunch and organizing Eagle's Nest Community Church's clothes closet. Love In Action then hit the streets handing out copies of the Gospel of John and inviting people to lunch. Before lunch, a service was held. Pastor Harold Smith of Eagle's Nest and Love In Action President Ken Tuck shared messages. Harold expressed the love he and Pastor Larry Arnold have for the homeless and why it's important for them to attend church regularly at Eagle's Nest. He also told them of the services they can receive at Eagle's Nest. Ken preached a message from Jeremiah 29:11. The church was packed, and nearly two-thirds in the audience responded to Ken's invitation to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Everyone received a new Bible during the service.
The good news continued Sunday as new people attended morning worship service at Eagle's Nest and some joined the church. Most importantly, five more people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Pastor Harold said it was all a direct result from this past weekend's outreach. Praise Jesus!
Following
Saturday's service, Love In Action served a delicious meal of grilled chicken,
baked beans, corn and homemade pound cake. About 150 homeless people enjoyed
the lunch, then after eating they received their blankets and jackets. The nights
are turning cooler in Atlanta, so they were very thankful for the blankets and
jackets.
It was an incredible weekend, and the love of God was shown to those who usually
get ignored. It's always heartbreaking to see people living in such terrible
conditions, but it was even more heartbreaking to see a baby whose parents are
homeless. They currently live in a shelter. The baby, whose name is Zechariah,
will soon have a brother or sister as his mother is eight-months pregnant. Women
and children are the fastest growing segment in the homeless population. Love
In Action is teaming with inner city churches across the nation like Eagle's
Nest to reach children like Zechariah and adults who live on the streets. We
have seen people come off the streets to live productive lives. Hopefully Zechariah
and his parents will do the same.
