Atlanta Homeless Outreach 2004

"As you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."

More than 20 receive Jesus; 250 homeless fed in Atlanta
It was a cold and rainy day in Atlanta on Jan. 17, when Love In Action led a team of 28 people to Atlanta to reach out to the homeless. Thanks to the generous donations of coats, blankets and finances we were able to provide coats and blankets to about 300 homeless, and serve hot homemade vegetable soup to about 250. Most importantly, more than 20 of the homeless accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Eagle's Nest Ministries in Atlanta will follow-up on those we were able to reach. Please keep Eagle's Nest in your prayers as they continue to reach out to the homeless and the working poor. Atlanta's homeless population has grown to around 16,000. Many of those on the streets are there because of losing their jobs due to layoffs. One man we met house recently burned and he had no where else to go. Others have drug and alcohol addictions. We were blessed to be helped by a precious woman who has come off the streets, made it through rehab and is now clean and serving Jesus with Eagle's Nest Ministries.

Love In Action President Mike Shroades and LIA volunteer Jim Mock pray with this homeless lady to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She could not walk up the street to where Love In Action was serving soup, so Jim took soup to her. Jim's wife, Lisa, and LIA youth volunteer Brett Reid also prayed with this precious lady.

Love In Action President Mike Shroades preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the homeless at the corner of Peachtree and Pine streets. It was cold and a light drizzle of rain was falling, but it didn't dampen the move of the Holy Spirit as 10 homeless people (pictured to the right) asked Jesus Christ to come into their hearts and be their Lord and Savior. God has blessed Love In Action with being able to minister numerous times at this particular street corner and see hundreds of homeless give their lives to Jesus. They are not left out on the streets alone, however. Eagle's Nest Ministries of Atlanta follows up and does a great job helping the homeless and the working poor.

Hundreds of homeless stand in line for a warm dinner provided and served by Love In Action Ministries. The men and women were very thankful for the hot homemade vegetable soup, crackers and bag of cookies and candy bars. One of the men told Love In Action Vice President Ken Tuck that it had been years since he had a bowl of homemade soup. Jesus says in Matthew 25:40 that "... inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."
Love In Action proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ through acts of compassion.

Love In Action distributed hundreds of coats and blankets to the homeless. Pictured above, the homeless gather around the van as Ken Tuck and LIA volunteer Kimmie Jordan hand out coats.

Love In Action Praise and Worship Leader Brad Garrett sings while the homeless enjoy their soup. It was an incredible sight to see and a beautiful sound to hear when the homeless all joined Brad in singing "Amazing Grace."

Love In Action volunteer Eleanor Campbell talks with a homeless lady on the steps of Eagle's Nest Ministries. She prayed with the lady and gave her a Gospel tract, which the lady is reading in the photo to the right.

This homeless man enjoyed his bowl of soup and was taking his packet of cookies with him to eat later.

Love In Action volunteers pray with this young man on Hilliard Street. LIA volunteers ministered up and down Hilliard for a couple of hours. We prayed with many people and invited them to Eagle's Nest Ministries for a hot bowl of soup.

Love In Action was blessed with some youth volunteers, who along with a couple of adults, ministered to two Atlanta teen-agers. Brooke Shroades led one of them in a prayer for salvation.
