Love In Action International Ministries 2008

Love In Action experienced an incredible year of ministry in 2008. Hundreds of the homeless and poor made decisions for Jesus Christ and thousands were helped with hygiene items, food, clothing and other needs. Thanks to everyone who volunteered, prayed for us, and gave financially to make all of this happen. We could not have done any of it without you.

Christmas 2008
Love In Action had a busy Christmas season with outreaches in Dothan, Ala., and Atlanta, Ga. We want to thank everyone who prayed for these outreaches and who donated finances, filled shoeboxes, hygiene items, food, toys and clothes. We also shipped socks, gloves and toboggans to Brooklyn, N.Y. and northern Virginia to help the homeless stay warmer during the cold winter months. Below, you can see the ministry that took place during the month of December. We couldn't have done all of this without each of you. We hope everyone experienced a joyous Christmas. Thanks to your generosity, hundreds of homeless and needy people enjoyed a much better Christmas than they had expected. We pray that God will bless each of you with a very joyous and prosperous 2009. We're looking forward to another year filled with more opportunities to reach the homeless and poor with the love and compassion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Helping needy children in Dothan

Love In Action President Ken Tuck filled up his truck with toys and clothes
from the LIA warehouse and delivered them to Mama Tina's Mission House.

Love In Action provided some toys and clothing to Mama Tina's Mission House in Dothan, Ala., for their annual Christmas Angel Tree outreach. They always do an excellent job of providing Christmas presents for needy children in Dothan. This year they provided gifts for more than 450 children. Most of those children wouldn't have had presents for Christmas otherwise.

Under the bridges in Dothan

Love In Action went under the bridges in Dothan, Ala., on Dec. 20, to deliver Christmas shoebox gifts to the homeless. Love In Action President Ken Tuck, Vice President Martha Tuck and board members Dwight Deal and Brian Turner spent Saturday morning traveling throughout Dothan going under bridges. The homeless will sleep under the bridges and use them to get out from the weather.
Now that Love In Action has a warehouse, the ministry is stepping up its efforts in its hometown of Dothan. In addition to going under the bridges to deliver Christmas shoeboxes, Love In Action has provided blankets, food and hygiene items for the homeless in Dothan throughout 2008.
Love In Action is also working closely with three homeless men to help them get back on their feet. They are no longer living on the streets, and two of them have jobs. There is a good chance that the third one will have a job after the first of the year. The next step is to help them obtain permanent housing. Two of them need some counseling and we're helping them get the help that they need. All three men have great potential and they are all attending Love In Action's home church, which is Harvest Church in Dothan. Please keep Dave, Bryan and Russ in your prayers. They have made some good strides forward, but they still have a long ways to go.

Millions of people in Haiti are starving and malnourished. More than 850,000 people are homeless, including 300,000 children. The situation is beyond desperation. Love In Action is working to help the people of Haiti. We just delivered a 24-foot truck filled with food, water, blankets, sheets and towels. Love In Action is working in the Dominican Republic to help children who live in slums receive an education. Love In Action's first goal is to repair a building that will be used for a school to bring education to 162 children. In addition to education, LIA wants to provide at least one meal a day for the children, then for the entire village. 50 people make decisions for Jesus Christ

It was a beautiful day for an outreach on Dec. 13 as Love In Action traveled to Atlanta for its annual Christmas Shoeboxes for the Homeless. We once again joined our partners Eagle's Nest Community Church for this outreach. It's always an honor to minister with them. More than 200 homeless people were served a delicious hot lunch and received shoebox gifts filled with hygiene items, gloves, toboggans, Bibles, Christian tracts, candy and other items. Most importantly, about 50 homeless people made decisions for Jesus Christ following a message delivered by Love In Action President Ken Tuck.
Love In Action was joined by more than 25 volunteers from five different churches. Volunteers came from Dothan, Enterprise and Ozark, Ala., and Rome and Atlanta, Ga., and they all did an outstanding job. Many people donated shoeboxes, items for shoeboxes and donated money to purchase items for shoeboxes and food.

Thanksgiving Day Outreach

More than 350 served in Dothan, Ala.

These men, who live in low-rent apartments in a poverty-stricken and dangerous area
of Dothan, Ala., were very happy to receive a delicious Thanksgiving Day meal.
Click on the photo above for a photo slideshow.

To say the Thanksgiving Day Outreach was awesome would be an understatement. It was an incredible day. Our goal was to serve 250 Thanksgiving Day meals to
the homeless and poor in Dothan, Ala. We ended up serving more than 350 meals. As the plates were being prepared, we all laughed and said it was like when Jesus blessed the fish and the bread and fed thousands. People really responded to help us with this outreach. People cooked turkeys, dressing, green beans, casseroles and desserts. There were more than 50 volunteers helping to make this outreach so successful. We can't thank everyone who volunteered enough. We also can't thank First United Methodist Church enough, either. They opened up their kitchen to us. They have a wonderful kitchen and we were able to slice the turkey, cook
the dressing, sweet potato casseroles and green beans there. Then, we formed an assembly line to dish the food into the plates. Volunteers then wheeled the filled plates outside on carts to Love In Action's cargo trailer. We stacked 358 plates in the trailer, then we delivered them to the most poverty-stricken areas in Dothan.
Men, women, boys and girls who otherwise wouldn't have eaten a good meal enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving Day dinner. The people saw the love of Jesus in
every one of the volunteers and many of them asked for prayer. It was incredible. To read more about this wonderful outreach, click here.
Thank you again to everyone who volunteered, cooked food, prayed for this outreach and gave financially so we could purchase the turkey, dressing, cranberry
sauce, sweet potato casseroles and rolls.

Large donation
Love In Action received another large donation of supplies from our friends at Brett/Robinson Vacation Rentals and Real Estate in Orange Beach, Ala. We rented a
24-foot truck and Brett/Robinson packed it with sheets, blankets, mattress covers and pillows. The sheets, mattress covers and pillows will be shipped to Haiti,
and the blankets will be given to the homeless throughout the U.S. to help them make it through the cold winter months. Brett/Robinson is a tremendous blessing
to Love In Action. Watch the video below to see this incredible donation.

Mark Mills helps store and organize the oats that Love In Action received from Old Dominion Freight Lines. The oats will be shipped to Haiti as part of Love In Action's Food for Haiti project.

First food delivery
Love In Action received its first food delivery from Old Dominion Freight Lines Friday afternoon (Sept. 26) at its warehouse. Prior to moving into its warehouse,
Love In Action did not have anywhere to store a large amount of food. Now there is plenty of room. The food delivered was oats, saltine crackers, onion
rings, spaghetti sauce, and mustard. The oats and crackers came at the perfect time as those items will be used in Love In Action's shipment of food to the
country of Haiti. See the video below and check out our first shipment of food.

Haiti Outreach

Love In Action helped reach the people of Haiti with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and with supplies to meet physical needs in August. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and Love In Action teamed up with Love In Action World Ministries of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., to minister in Haiti. Three crusades were held and more than 150 people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We also helped ship a large container of supplies to meet the physical needs of the people.

A busy summer for Love In Action

Helping the homeless in three nations
As the summertime temperatures heat up, so has the ministry of Love In Action. We have shipped hygiene items and towels to help reach out to the homeless in Triangle, Va., Woodbridge, Va., Brooklyn, NY, and to the countries of Haiti and Panama. We are helping Street Light Ministries in Woodbridge, Va., start a bath ministry. It's the fourth bath ministry we have helped start throughout the nation. It's a great outreach and a great blessing to the homeless.

New leadership
Love In Action's leadership has changed. Mike Shroades and Ken Tuck founded the ministry in 2001, and they have worked hard to grow the ministry and have seen thousands come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Mike has served as President and Ken as Vice President. For the past three years, Ken and his wife, Martha, have ran the ministry. Mike has been extremely busy with his church and his family, and hasn't been able to serve with Love In Action. Therefore, Mike has stepped down as President. Ken is now President and Martha is Vice President.
Mike will still be involved with Love In Action and will serve as Co-founder/Executive Board Member. The mission of Love In Action has not changed. We still reach the lost through acts of compassion.
This is and always will be a ministry that reaches out to the homeless and the poor throughout this nation and the world.

'They had the biggest smiles on their faces'
July 16, 2008
Love In Action helped Arms Outstretched Ministry in Triangle, Va., with a special outreach to the homeless. We shipped socks to northern Virginia for the outreach and the homeless were very thankful for them.
Arms Outstretched Ministry Director Michelle Humphries said, "I gave out the entire box of socks you sent me, along with drinks, boxed foods and care packages. The homeless were
very happy to receive the socks, as usual. Two of the homeless guys were not wearing socks at all; they only had shoes on. I gave them each a bag of socks. Their eyes lit up and they
had the biggest smiles on their faces."
Thanks to those of you who support Love In Action, we are able to help reach out to the homeless throughout the nation. Your prayers and financial donations make it possible. What Michelle said wraps up what your giving means to the homeless: "Thank you again Ken for helping me bless the homeless all the way from Alabama. I wouldn't be able to afford to buy
the socks and hygiene items that you send me to give to the homeless. And sad as it is, there are few people who have a heart for the homeless as I do, so getting them to donate funds
or socks is tough to do. Without your help, not as many homeless would receive the blessing that they are receiving because of your ministry. Your ministry is a blessing to so many
people around the world. It is awesome!"
Love In Action could not do it without your support. As you can see, together, we are making a difference for the kingdom of God. Thank you.

Socks for the homeless
July 10, 2008
Love In Action shipped more than 33 pounds of socks to Arms Outstretched Ministry in Triangle, Va. The ministry, which is located in northern Virginia near Washington, D.C., is going to have an outreach to the homeless on July 16, and the socks will help them provide an important need for the homeless. The homeless have told Love In Action that socks are like gold to them, because they are always on their feet. By meeting physical needs, it opens the door to share Jesus Christ with the homeless. Please be in prayer for Arms Outstretched Ministry as they minister to the homeless through a special outreach on July 16. Thanks for supporting Love In Action so we can ship supplies throughout the nation to help the homeless.

Support Our Troops
July 6, 2008
Love In Action's home church, Harvest Church in Dothan, AL., is collecting supplies to send to the US troops serving in Iraq. The program is called "Support Our Troops," and Love In Action donated soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, mouthwash and packages of personal hygiene cleaning towelettes. More blankets and towels for the homeless
June 27, 2008

Ken and Martha Tuck load Love In Action's cargo trailer with blankets and towels.

Love In Action President and Vice President Ken and Martha Tuck traveled to Orange Beach, Alabama, to pick up another large donation of blankets and towels from
Brett/Robinson Real Estate and Vacation Rentals. This makes the second time this year Brett/Robinson has given LIA a large donation of supplies.
Love In Action rents a storage building to keep all of our supplies. Please keep praying that we will be able to have a warehouse soon.
Another company has offered large donations of food, but right now we do not have anywhere to store it. Please pray about giving financially toward this great need.

Helping the homeless in Brooklyn
June 12, 2008

Five years ago when Love In Action traveled to New York City to minister to the homeless, we met a pastor and his wife at a church in an impoverished area in Brooklyn. Pastors Larry and Margie Pitta of Sunset Park Community Church have a tremendous heart for the homeless and poor and have been ministering to them for the past 25 years. Five years ago we helped them serve lunch and minister to the homeless. We told them that we would continue to help them reach their community. We have, and today we once again shipped supplies to Brooklyn to help with their homeless ministry. We shipped 2,000 individual bars of soap, 25 pounds of hygiene packets and 27 pounds of towels. Pastor Larry had told us they were in need of Christian literature, so we also shipped to him 400 books of the Gospel of John (200 in English and 200 in Spanish). Please keep Pastors Larry and Margie and Sunset Park Community Church in your prayers. They do a great work for the glory of God. Thanks for giving to help us help the homeless throughout the nation.

Starting shower ministries for the homeless
June 3, 2008
Most homeless people really do care about their appearance and hygiene. However, living on the streets and in-and-out of shelters make it difficult for them to stay clean. That's why it's important to provide shower opportunities for them. Love In Action has helped start and maintain shower ministries in Atlanta, Brooklyn, NY, and Dothan, Ala. We have just added a fourth shower ministry, this one is in northern Virginia. Street Light Ministries does a terrific job of reaching out to the homeless near Washington, DC They wanted to start a shower ministry, and Love In Action was able to help. We shipped 155 pounds of supplies to them - soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes and towels and bath cloths. We're excited to be part of this great ministry. We understand how vital a shower ministry is, and how it opens the door to leading the homeless to Jesus Christ. It also lets them know that people do care about them. They are use to people ignoring them. A shower ministry shows the homeless that God has not forgotten them. Please be praying for Street Light Ministries as they start this very important ministry in July.

Reaching out to other nations
May 28 , 2008

For the past seven years, Love In Action has reached out to the homeless and poor throughout the United States. Through meeting people's physical needs we have seen thousands
come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and we have seen some of those people allow God to create a new life for them. Through being faithful to helping the homeless
and poor in our country, God has opened the doors to help the poor in other countries.
Today we delivered hygiene supplies to Covenant United Methodist, a church in Dothan, Ala., that's leading a medical missions trip to the country of Panama in July. They needed items
such as soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and we were able to provide those supplies to help them reach the people of Panama.
We also shipped more than 133 pounds of supplies to the House of Mercy in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. This is a Christian French Haitian Church that reaches out to the Haitian community in South Florida. In July, they are traveling to their native country of Haiti on a missions trip. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. Love In Action was able to ship them soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and other hygiene items, and towels.
We praise God for the opportunities to help these churches reach out to the poor in other parts of the world. We couldn't do it without your prayers and support. Please be praying for
these outreaches to Panama and Haiti, and please keep Love In Action in your prayers too. Thanks and God bless.

Meeting needs of the homeless in Dothan, Alabama
April 19, 2008

talk and pray with Robert, a homeless man in Dothan, Alabama.

Love In Action President and Vice President, Ken and Martha Tuck, delivered a large amount of supplies to Mama Tina's Mission House in Dothan, Alabama, to help them minister to the needs of the homeless. Dothan is home to Love In Action, so ministering to the needs of the homeless in our hometown is extremely important. Mama Tina's Mission House is sponsored by T.O.P.S. (The Ordinary People Society). T.O.P.S. has been ministering to the homeless in Dothan for the past 10 years, and LIA has worked with them for the past several years, including helping Mama Tina's Mission House begin a bath ministry for the homeless and needy.
We filled our cargo trailer with a wide variety of items, including clothes, soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste and toothbrushes, towels, blankets, pillows, sheets, and other supplies.
"Mama" Tina Glasgow was thrilled to receive the large amount of supplies. There are upwards of 200 homeless people in Dothan, and hundreds of others who live in houses and apartments with no electricity or running water. The people know they can go to Mama Tina's daily for lunch and dinner. They serve nearly 200 meals a day. The people can also take showers and get clean clothes at Mama Tina's.
While at Mama Tina's, Ken and Martha prayed with a homeless man named Robert, who struggles with alcohol. He is getting help at Mama Tina's, and he attended his first church service with T.O.P.S. two weeks ago. Please keep Robert and all of the homeless and needy in Dothan in your prayers. And, pray for T.O.P.S. and Mama Tina's Mission House.
LIA is thankful to be able to help T.O.P.S. minister to the homeless and needy in Dothan. We couldn't do it without your prayers and financial donations. Thank you.

Supplies for the homeless shipped to Virginia
April 4, 2008

Love In Action shipped supplies to Arms Outstretched Ministry in Triangle, Va., to help them with an outreach to the homeless on March 26. We shipped 41 pounds of soap (more than 1,000 individual bars of soap), 51 pounds of hygiene items (tooth paste, tooth brushes, deodorant, shampoo), and around 120 pairs of socks. Arms Outstretched Ministry does an awesome job of reaching out to the homeless in northern Virginia, and these supplies helped meet the physical needs of the homeless, which opened the door to share Jesus Christ with them. Arms Outstretched Ministry Director Michelle Humphries said the socks and hygiene items brought smiles to the faces of the homeless when they received them.
Thank you for helping us reach the homeless throughout the US

'Like a million bucks'
Feb. 23, 2008

Earlier in February, Love In Action shipped socks and hygiene items to Arms Outstretched Ministry in Triangle, Virginia, to help them with a homeless outreach on Feb. 23. Arms Outstretched Ministry Director Michelle Humphries said the homeless were thrilled to receive the socks and hygiene items. One homeless man told her that the socks "were like a million bucks" to him.
Not only were physical needs met that day in northern Virginia, but three homeless people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Michelle has a great heart for the homeless, and thanks to those who financially support Love In Action, we are able to help her meet the needs of the homeless in northern Virginia. That opens the door for them to receive the love of Jesus Christ.

Pictured to the left, Michelle Humphries gives three homeless men socks that Love In Action shipped to her for this outreach on Feb. 23. Above, socks provided by LIA are taken out of the box to be distributed to the homeless in northern Virginia.

A large donation of items for homeless
Feb. 15, 2008

This wonderful group of managers and staff of Brett/Robinson Vacation Sales and Rentals filled up Love In Action's cargo trailer with hundreds of blankets and towels. They also loaded up the back of LIA President Ken Tuck's Toyota Tundra with more than 4,400 pounds of soap and shampoo.

Love In Action was blessed this weekend with an incredible donation of supplies from Brett/Robinson Vacation and Rentals in Orange Beach, Ala. We took our new 6'X12' cargo trailer and it was quickly filled to overflowing with hundreds of blankets and towels. Love In Action President Ken Tuck pulled the cargo trailer with his Toyota Tundra, and the good folks at Brett/Robinson filled the bed of the Tundra with 4,400 pounds of soap (35,000 individual bars of soap) and five cases of small bottles of shampoo (720 bottles). All of this will be used to help the homeless throughout the nation. One of the most important aspects of this ministry is connecting with churches and ministries who minister to the homeless in the inner cities throughout America, and helping them by providing supplies like hygiene items, blankets, socks and underwear. When you provide for a person's most basic physical needs, it opens the door to share Jesus Christ with them. We have helped start bath ministries in Atlanta, Brooklyn and Dothan, so all of the soap, shampoo and towels will be a huge help.
We thank Brett/Robinson for this incredible donation, and they have a lot more they want to donate to Love In Action. If you are in the Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, Ala., area on vacation, or you are looking for beach property, contact Brett/Robinson at 1-800-211-7892 or visit their Web site at www.brett-robinson.com.

Taking the Gospel to India
Feb. 23-March 6
Love In Action Cofounder Mike Shroades traveled to India Feb. 23-March 6, to lead a pastor's conference and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This was Mike's and LIA's first international mission. Mike ministered to more than 1,500 pastors at the conference. He also preached in villages throughout the region of India he visited.
